Have you ever heard of the notes app poets? These are the women who, in their happiest moments and in their darkest, turn to creation. The notes apps on their phones become a sacred place of feeling and of art. Sometimes it is the drunk ramblings of a newly single woman, and sometimes it is the self-assured writing of a newlywed. One thing that it always is is important.
So why is it that these poems are swept under the rug? Why is this phenomenon so unknown? This is due to the fact that almost every single notes app poet believes her poems to be terrible. All across social media, they will only own up to their writing under the lens of self-deprecating humor. It is only allowed to be acknowledged if it is mocked.

This is a tragedy. How many more poems would there be in the world if these women were allowed to unashamedly feel? One of the great losses of our time is the appreciation of emotion. Too often have women been shamed for their ability to feel and to empathize, and now it is actively destroying art. The loss of this femininity is felt even as it is praised. I hope someday to no longer have notes app poets, simply poets all around the world.
